God knows you. Not in a ‘knows about you’ kind of way. God knows you. He knows what makes you tick. He knows what tempts you. He knows your fears. He knows your limitations. He knows your strengths. He knows your personality. How? He put it all there in the first place.
And in spite of all this, He loves you! We are fully known by our Father, there is nothing that we can hide from him. No secret desire, no emotion, no sin, nothing can be hidden from him. And yet, He still loves us!
Since the Bible is really a love letter to us from God that reveals His heart, let’s look at a few verses that describe how God sees us, and what he really thinks about us. Brace yourselves, it might not be what you expect:
Verse #1
Psalm 139 (NLT): 13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
Does this seem like a God who is distant? Does this sound like a grumpy old man on a throne up in the clouds who is constantly disappointed in us? Not to me. To me this sounds like a creative genius who desired that I be part of His plan, and who put thought into what I would be like. It seems like a description of a Father who loves me, and who looks forward to walking with me in the plans He made. Who wants me to trust Him, and to lean (or more accurately fall) into Him and depend on Him every moment of every day. Not just because I have to, but because I choose to fall into His arms. He doesn’t just choose me every day, he is there right by my side. When I wake up each day He is there saying “Are you ready? Let’s do this. I’ve got some amazing things planned for us today”.

Verse #2
Jeremiah 1:5a (NLT) “I knew you BEFORE I formed you in your mother’s womb…”
You read that right – Before! He knew the world needed you. Right here, right now, right where you are. He gave you the personality, the talents, the gifts to join Him in His purpose! Need some direction in life? Ask Him – He knew what your gifts and perfect direction would be before you took your first breath!

Verse #3
Ephesians 2 (NLT): 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Yes, you read that right. God’s masterpiece! Not made on an assembly line, not something he thinks is okay or average, or something that he has to put up with. Read this slowly, one word at a time. YOU. Are. God’s. Masterpiece! His glorious, wonderful, perfect work of art that he is proud of and want’s to let everyone see and know about! You are His! You belong to Him and He loves you more than you can ever know or understand! Believe that, because as sure as the Bible is true, as sure as Jesus blood shed on the cross is THE way to the Father, God our Father loves us and desires relationship with us!
I’ll say it again – God DESIRES relationship with us. Ongoing, two-way speaking and hearing relationship. What we end up giving Him all too often is religion. Have we done enough good things to make Him happy? Religion. Was I good this week? Bad this week? Religion. I guess I should confess that I sinned, and then feel bad about it for a while. Religion. I’ll try and do better this week. Religion. I should probably do something nice for someone or put $20 in the offering basket to make up for it. Religion.
Religion highlights our failure, but a relationship with God brings life! I don’t know about you, but I need some life right now. Some unconditional love sounds good. Based on those Bible verses we just read, it’s clear that God wants to have a relationship with us as much as we deep down long for a real relationship with Him! We were created for relationship with Him. Ask Him to remove all your false thinking so you can see how He really feels. Through Jesus He made a way to restore this relationship – step in!
